The Carter V

Rating: ***

Happy to see Wayne free and releasing new tunes.

As for my verdict — A HELL of a lot better than his previous projects (Carter 4 and both Dedication 6 projects), but some tracks could have been cut from the album. Surprisingly, my least favorite track was Let It Fly featuring Travis Scott. I usually love anything Travis touches, but not this time. It didn’t even pass the car test.

What About Me grew on me. I hated it at first and was one of my least favorite slow songs on the album. Now I’m loving it. Some parts of the song sound like something I could hear Drake singing and once I found myself singing it on the way to work like I was really staying up all night for someone, I was sold.

This album is full of emotions and has replay value, but I will say — Carter V was just okay. No he wasn’t “in his bag”.

For those calling it “Complete Ass” are expecting Carter II Wayne or 2008 Tunechi and that has been gone for some years now. Hang it up.

I look forward to more work being released by one of my Top 5 DOAs since YM is now its own entity.
