There is much beauty in simplicity. Emily King’s “Sides” exemplifies that by giving us the acoustic versions of previously released tracks. The songwriting is immaculate. My favorite track (I’ve already listened to 15 times today) is “Distance”. The lyrics and the arrangement reminds me of the music I was forced to listen to while in the car with my uncle heading to school (i.e., Kem) — I admit, I knew no better then. The content was too grown for me but NOW I get it. I will also admit, I am late to the party when it comes to talent of Emily King. She’s a force. Her tone, her control, and her content bleeds Soul and it feels so good.
