Im unashamed
But Im not proud
My shortcomings make parts of me undesirable,
But Ive learned to own it.
Because, fuck it, my shortcomings are mine
No one else’s.
My past transgressions are a reflection of the emotions i wasn't taught to deal with properly,
Or at all for that matter.
I never had interest in uncovering them or understanding them.
Just wasn't my thing.
Seemed like Hoe Shit I just wasn't down to acknowledge,
Because in my mind, it was all synonymous with weakness.
But I've hit a wall,
And I don't recognize myself anymore.
Im hurting.
And Im tired of pretending like the wear and tear hasn't finally caught up to me.
I had guidance
I still have it
My father never failed me.
But being a man is still a job where you’re constantly unearthing parts of yourself you didn't even know existed.
Every single day.
He told me earlier that he was still learning too, so he couldn't tell me too much about it,
But he let me know “Whatever happens to you, don't let it make you bitter.”
It resonated..
I listened to this playlist at the right time
So many songs about the Highs and Lows of masculinity by some of the Greats made me realize I needed to keep my mind free of clutter and start to understand my journey as a man from a higher vantage point.
This is my first entry.
And a reminder to myself: Its okay to get it off your chest. It doesn’t belong there anyway.

I decided to curate a playlist for the men. Although I'm not one, (nor do I want to be one) I often wonder what songs might portray the things you all feel, ponder, worry, or dream when it's difficult to express or simply acknowledge those emotions. (Y'all are good for doing just that, leaving it up to women to figure out what's going on.)
Even though it drives me nuts, I wouldn't trade you for the world.
We need you and we appreciate you.
